NAICS codes for federal janitorial, grounds and facilities work
Agencies tag each notice with a NAICS code and often a Product and Service Code (PSC). Those codes drive search filters and the small-business size standard for that bid. Titles alone miss a lot of work.
Common codes
| Trade | Typical NAICS | Typical PSC |
|---|---|---|
| Janitorial / custodial | 561720 | S201 |
| Landscaping / grounds | 561730 | S208 |
| Snow removal (often with grounds) | 561790 or 561730 | S218 |
| Pest control | 561710 | S207 |
| Facilities support / multi-trade | 561210 | S216 |
| Carpet / upholstery cleaning | 561740 | varies |
| Other building services (e.g. pressure washing) | 561790 | varies |
Notices are written by people. Cleaning work sometimes sits under a broad facilities code, and grounds work is sometimes bundled with snow. Search both codes and a few keywords ("custodial", "janitorial", "grounds maintenance").
How to use them on SAM.gov
- Open Contract Opportunities search.
- Filter by NAICS (start with 561720 for cleaning) and optionally PSC.
- Add place of performance for your states.
- Leave notice type broad at first so Sources Sought notices still appear.
- Save the search after you sign in.

Size standards
"Small" is measured against the NAICS code on that solicitation, usually by average annual receipts. Current dollar limits change; check SBA size standards and 13 CFR 121.201 before you rely on a number. Our set-aside guide lists the facilities codes we track and how set-asides work.
